Real Internet And BDIX Speed Test

Real Internet And BDIX Speed Test

What is BDIX?

BDIX is an Internet Exchange Point (IXP) in Bangladesh – connecting ISPs, Mobile Operators and Content Providers. It works like a communication hub among the connected members and is intended to keep data transmission among the members using local backbone and not the International Internet Backbone.

This has a major impact on the Internet bandwidth – which earlier was used even in data transfers between local ISP users. BDIX is a not-for-profit venture of the Sustainable Development Networking Foundation (SDNF) Bangladesh. I was established for peering physical Interconnection for its members to exchange and route local Internet traffic locally through it.

How to convert Mb/s (Mega Bit per sec) to MB/s (Mega Byte per sec) and vice versa?

Big letter B in MB means Byte and little letter b in Mb means bit.

Megabit per second to Megabyte per second- 1 Mbps=0.125 MB/s

Megabyte per second to Megabit per second- 1 MB/s=8 Mb/s

One megabyte per second is equal to 8 megabits per second. To get Mbps from MB/s or multiply by eight.

To see MB/s, take the Mbps, and divide by eight or multiply by 0.125.

What is an internet speed test?

When you take an internet speed test, it checks the speed and quality of your device's connection to the internet. To evaluate your internet connection, a set of tests is conducted that assess different factors such as ping (latency), download speed, and upload speed.

What does an internet speed test tell me?

Speed tests determine the maximum speed of your current connection, measuring how quickly your device can upload and download information. This is done by accessing nearby test servers, which simulate your online activity in a controlled environment. The test involves downloading sample files and recording the resulting speeds.

What is a good speed for the internet?

A good download speed is at least 4 MB/s, and a good upload speed is at least 3 MB/s. For most individuals, that internet speed should suffice, although there may be some who require a higher Mbps and others who can make do with less.

What is the reason for requiring an internet speed test?

We recommend regularly testing your internet to ensure it meets your current and future needs. By testing regularly, you will see if there is any reduction in your speed over time. This could indicate a problem with the service you receive, some issue within your property, or a result of increased internet use during that time.

Why does my speed vary?

Speeds can vary during the day for several reasons. You can read more here:

These reasons include:

  • Wi-Fi Interference (from outside your home as well as from your own devices)
  • Software updates and other downloads on your devices (mobile devices and TVs as well as your computers)
  • There has been an increase in internet usage by other users on the same ISP exchange.
  • Temporary problems with your Internet provider
  • Programs running on your computer (including browser extensions)
  • Problems with your router
  • Faulty cables

Why is my mobile speed different from my desktop/computer speed?

This could be for several reasons, such as:

  • Your mobile device is connected to your mobile network operator instead of your fixed internet operator
  • Your computer is connected via cable instead of Wi-Fi
  • Your mobile Wi-Fi equipment is different from your computer
  • There could be interference affecting one of the devices and not the other
  • They could be using different Wi-Fi frequencies (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)
  • Other devices were using the internet for one of the tests and not the other
