How To Disable Windows 10 And 11 Update Permanently In Every Way

Should I turn off updates on Windows?

Instead of permanently turning off automatic updates in Windows 10, consider pausing them to install at a more convenient time to avoid security and stability issues.

Are Windows updates essential?

Installing security and software updates is critical to protect systems, access new features, and prevent security vulnerabilities.

Solution 1: Disable Windows Update Service

1. Press the Windows logo key + R, then type services.msc and click OK.

2. Now Scroll down to Windows Update, and double-click it.

3. In Startup type, select "Disabled". Then click "Apply" and "OK" to save the settings.

Solution 2: Change the Setting of the Group Policy Editor

The Group Policy feature is unavailable in the Home edition of Windows 10. Only Windows 10 Professional, Enterprise, or Education editions have access to the Group Policy Editor, which can be used to prevent automatic updates. The editor will notify users of new updates without automatically installing them.

1. Press the Windows logo key + R, then type gpedit.msc and click OK.

2. Go to "Computer Configuration" > "Administrative Templates" > "Windows Components" > "Windows Update."

3. Double-click "Configure Automatic Updates."

4. Select "Disabled" in Configured Automatic Updates on the left, and click Apply and "OK" to turn off the Windows automatic update feature.

If you want to update your Windows version in the future, you can follow the same steps and enable the feature to download updates.

Solution 3: Meter Your Network Connection

Disable automatic updates on Windows 10 and 11 via Wi-Fi only.

1. On your desktop, click Start and then click Settings.
2. Next, click Network & Internet and select your Wi-Fi connection.

3. Finally, turn on the Set as metered connection.

Several methods exist to turn off automatic Windows updates for versions 10 and 11. These methods have been tested and proven effective.
